LONG BEACH, Calif. – After coming up with two wins to kick off the tournament Saturday the CUI beach volleyball split on the final day dropping a game to host team Long Beach State. The Golden Eagles move to 12-7 on the season.
 
 
CUI 3, USF 2
 
Although the Dons were able to get two points it was too late to secure a win as the Golden Eagles scored the first three points. The third slot was a quick game as CUI held their opponents to under 15 points in each set while No. 5 pair topped that with only allowing the Dons to score 10 points in each set played.
 
Nordin and Solberg earned the third point for CUI in a tough match-up. The Golden Eagles lost the first set by just two points and came back to dominate the second set forcing a third. The third was a battle as the score toggled between the two pairs and CUI jumped out to take a close 15-12 win.
 
Slots one and four were the only points for the Dons but the Golden Eagles did not go down lightly. Both CUI pairs won the first set but then the Dons came back in the second and going the distance into a third set. Both duos lost by just two points with scores 19-17 from Lemoine and Ostojic and 15-13 from Prewitt and Rossi.

The Golden Eagles faced off against host team Long Beach State to close out the tournament. Long Beach was able to take the win over the Golden Eagles but they did not let up. CUI took three of the five games to three sets to push Long Beach until the end.

After being on the road for the first 19 games of the season the Golden Eagles are excited to have their home opener Wednesday Mar. 19. CUI will host Cal State LA and Colorado Mesa at the OC Great Park with start times at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
