HONOLULU, Hawai'i – After CUI came off a strong start with the first game of the series against Chaminade Saturday they were hoping for the same with a double header day Sunday with both games going seven innings. Chaminade came out with the win in the first game 5-3 and in the second game CUI answered back with a 4-1 win.
CUH 5, CUI 3
Josh Pugh started on the bump for CUI going 1.2 innings and had five hits with four runs which led to
Jamison King coming in as the reliever. King faced six batters in the 1.1 innings he pitched.
Richie Kingsborough,
Scott Wood, and
Kaj James all pitched one inning each. James was effective in the seventh striking out the three batters faced to hold Chaminade at five runs.
Niko Santamaria continues to help the Green and Gold going 2-for-4 from the batters box.
Isaiah Walz also had another two hit game while both players had an RBI. Six other Golden Eagles contributed with one hit with three being doubles.
Haku Dudoit smacked a triple to left center to try to get things going to CUI in the fifth inning. Walz and
Sawyer Voortman followed up with an RBI single each to cut the deficit in half to 2-4.
Chaminade came out first scoring four in the second inning and CUI had the opportunities but came up just short. Concordia had the bases loaded in top of the seventh with two outs but the Silverswords were able to hold the offense and close out the game by a close 3-5 score.
CUI 4, CUH 1
Chaminade scored first in the second inning but Concordia answered back in the top of the third with Madison hitting a two RBI single to right field to bring home Voortman and Walz. In the fourth Dudoit helped with an RBI to bring in another run for the Green and Gold.
Santamaria executed another perfect sacrifice bunt to bring home Madison and extend their lead with four runs in the sixth. Chaminade to get things going in the bottom of the seventh but CUI was able to close it out and hold them to just the one run.
PacWest Pitcher of the week
Matthew Kaiser pitched his first complete game in seven innings striking out 10 batters which ties his career high that he had just hit last week against Menlo. Kaiser advances to 2-0 in his third start of the season.
The Golden Eagles will close out the series against Chaminade on Monday, Mar. 3 at 8 p.m. PST. CUI will stay in Hawai'i and play another series against Hawai'i Pacific starting Friday Mar. 7 with a doubleheader.
