IRVINE, Calif. - Concordia's Presley Acosta scored three goals and goalkeeper Jaden Soto racked up nine saves in Friday's matinee against No. 11 LMU.
Facing the reigning GCC Player of the Week in LMU goalie Alyssa Barnuevo, CUI converted seven goals on the day.
Acosta flung two of her three goals to the back of the net with style, snapping her arm around a defender to catch the Lions completely off guard.
Emeline Smiley also contributed a goal and an assist to help the cause.
Hannah Edwards added one goal, one assist and a win in the fourth quarter sprint. Sierra Ferguson and Anna Tyukasz rounded out the scoring for CUI with one goal apiece. Tyukasz's goal caught the Lions by surprise, a shot made a few feet from the mid-pool line.
The Lions built a 5-1 lead in the opening period and made it tough for the Golden Eagles to dig out of that hole.
LMU ultimately secured an 18-7 victory.
Concordia has two home games next week on the horizon. UC Santa Barbara will visit Woollett next Friday, April 4 at 12:30 pm. The Golden Eagles then host Fresno Pacific at 10 a.m. on Saturday over at the pool at Northwood High School.
