CUI Splits Doubleheader at Biola

LA MIRADA, CALIF. - Concordia University Irvine softball split a doubleheader at Biola's home field on Saturday, taking a 5-4 win in the first game before falling 0-3 in the second. The Golden Eagles now stand at 26-5 overall and 16-2 in PacWest play as they prepare for their upcoming games against Jessup.

Game 1: CUI 5, Biola 4

CUI started strong in the first game, taking an early lead in the opening inning. Kayla Rodgers singled and was brought home by Shelby Pfeiler's single to left field for a 1-0 advantage.

Rodgers continued her hot streak in the third inning, going 2-for-2, and reaching base again. Audrey Robles stepped up with a clutch double to right-center, scoring Rodgers to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Golden Eagles kept adding to their lead in the fourth. Kaliya Yco singled, and Mya Diaz followed with an RBI single that brought Yco home to make it 3-0.

Jessica Im contributed two key RBIs, one in the fourth inning and another in the eighth, with both coming via singles to drive in runs and increase the lead to 5-4.

CUI's pitcher, Kacie Gossett, earned the win and improved her record to 6-0 on the season. Gossett helped the Golden Eagles hold off Biola's late rally to secure the victory.

Game 2: Biola 3, CUI 0

In the second game, Biola shut out CUI 3-0. Despite strong efforts from the Golden Eagles, including a double from Jessica Im and a single from Kayla Rodgers in the first inning, they were unable to get on the scoreboard. Biola capitalized on scoring opportunities and kept CUI's offense in check throughout the game.

Looking Ahead

CUI will return to action on Monday, March 31st, when they host Jessup for a doubleheader at home. This will be the first meeting between the two teams as NCAA Division II schools. The games are scheduled for 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
