SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Knotted in a close contest nearly the entire way, the Concordia Golden Eagles had a chance to oust Hawaii Hilo in the quarterfinal of the PacWest Conference Championships.
After a
Joseph Locandro hook shot tied the game at 59-59 with two minutes to play, both teams were searching for answers on how to create some separation.
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, Hawaii Hilo finished the game on an 11-2 run, and CUI just ran out of time to complete a come back.
Second Team All-Conference selection
Jaden Henderson scored 17 points and Locandro added 15 off the bench.
Jayce Catchings contributed another full stat line with 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. Senior
Connor Gleason chipped in with seven points and three boards.
Five different Golden Eagles made a three-pointer, including Gleason, sophomore
Kaden Minter and freshman point guard
Kevin Haupt. However, CUI just 20 percent from downtown (5-for-25) while the Vulcans shot 51 percent overall from the field.
CUI led 37-36 at the break and there were eight different lead changes. UHH ultimately won the second half by ten points.
The Golden Eagles close the year 16-12 overall and tied for fourth in the PacWest standings after winning their final four regular season games to make the tournament.
