CUI Closes It Down Against Jessup

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team picked up a thrilling win with newly added two game series against Jessup. The Warriors were able to win the first set by just two points but Concordia answered back winning the next three sets with scores 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, and 26-24.

Outside hitters were effective for CUI as Gage Doble reached a season high of 15 kills and Ties Cornelissen had another double digit night capping off at 12. The two players had five digs each and had a hitting percentage above .420. Doble was dominate defensively as he put up two solo blocks along with three block assists and had a team high of three aces. Connor Dell reached a double digit game with 10 kills.

The middles continue to put on show and be a force with up at the net with Clement Osahon Jr. and John Rzepniewski putting up eight and four kills respectively. Osahon Jr. was able to read the Warriors offense and shut them down with three solo blocks and four block assists.

Kasey Clouet debuted as the starting setter for CUI and set up the offense with 35 assists and seven digs. Cruse Ae'a wore the libero jersey and scooped up four digs along with some great covers to keep the play alive for the Green and Gold.

In the fourth set the Golden Eagles were down 13-19 and the Warriors thought they were going to push a fifth set but Marcus Morgan was at the service line and continues to bring it and served up two aces to cut the deficit 15-19. CUI had a service sub to bring in Justin Dowdle and he did not disappoint. Dowdle went on a run and served up four points to take a 23-22 lead over the Warriors and ultimately set up CUI to win by a close 26-24.
