San Marcos, Calif.- In a doubleheader hosted at No. 18 Cal State San Marcos, The Golden Eagles took two wins from the Cougars
Â
CUI 4, CSUSM 1
Game one of the doubleheader went in favor of the Golden Eagles, and Kailey Estes threw a gem in the circle and held the Cougars to only six hits. Estes pitched a total of five innings and then handed things off to Jayden Nishi, who held the Cougars to two hits in two innings pitched.Â
Kayla Rodgers went two-for-three with an RBI single in the third inning to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 over the Cougars. Then, in the fifth, Rodgers doubled to centerfield, and ended up scoring on the same play due to an error in CF, which brought in Gabby Villa and Shelli Faulk as well to make the score 4-1.
Kayla Simpson had a big triple in the top of the sixth inning to deep right field, but she was left stranded.Â

CUI 6, CSUSM 5Â
In game two of the double header in San Marcos, CUI had a six-run sixth inning to come from behind and hold off Cal State San Marcos 6-5, in a gritty road win Tuesday afternoon.
The game was a pitchers' duel through the first five innings and Kacie Gossett held the Cougars to eight hits, with both teams scratching across a run apiece thanks to defensive miscues and timely hits. San Marcos broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third and added another in the fifth on a sac fly by Paige Donnelly, giving CSUSM a 2–0 lead.
But, the sixth inning belonged to the Golden Eagles.
CUI batted around, putting up six runs on just three hits while capitalizing on three Cougar errors and a passed ball. Kayla Simpson and Jessica Im each reached base and scored in the inning, with Gabby Villa driving in a run on a single and Kayla Rodgers earning one by wearing a pitch. The rally was capped when two runs crossed home on a combination of passed balls and throwing errors, putting the Golden Eagles up 6-2.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is Senior Day on Friday April 18th, at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
