CUI MLAX Controls Dominican On Successful Senior Day

The Golden Eagles Used A Third Period Surge To Coast To A 17-8 Win in Final Home Game

IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Day was a blast for the Golden Eagles as the Green and Gold dominated the Dominican Penguins 17-8 in their last home game of the year.

Chad McFadden scored five goals and added two assists for a team-high seven points.

Senior Jeremy Barnes had a fine day at the office with six points (three goals and three helpers). Fellow seniors Jake Cloutier and Ben Gorelick, who occassionaly join the attack, also scored one goal apiece to the delight of the home crowd.  

Matt Carresi also joined the fun with a pair of goals and an assist for good measure. Max Texter, Tyler Hilmar and freshman Noah Pillow each scored once, while Brody MacDonald scored twice.

Senior goalie Daniel Yang collected eight saves and improved to 6-1 this season between the pipes. Face off specialist Cade Poe emerged from the X with 15 wins in 21 tries and senior Owen Johnson and teammate Drew Klingman joined forces to help the Golden Eagles win 20 of their 29 opportunities.

Defenseman Edward McCann IV collected four ground balls, Colin O'Connor added an assist and Connor Kuhl roamed the middle portion of the field for a team-best three caused turnovers and six ground balls.

Concordia is now 7-6 to close the regular season and will face No. 3 seed Westminster in the RMAC Division semifinals. The Golden Eagles are the no. 2 seed after closing with a 6-2 conference record. The only two losses are against top-seeded Colorado Mesa, but the last meeting came down to the wire and was just an 8-7 final score in favor of the Mavericks. Dominican will face Colorado Mesa, who is the RMAC Division Tournament host, in the other semifinal.

CUI and Westminster will face off in Grand Junction, Colo. on Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. PT (Locally 7 p.m MT).

The RMAC semifinal winners meet Saturday, April 26 at 4 p.m. PT (Locally that's 5 pm MT) for the chance to face the winner of the Peach Belt Conference for that tasty automatic bid into the NCAA DII Tournament.
