Azusa, Calif. - In the series finale in Azusa, The Golden Eagles and Cougars both took one game, and APU and CUI split the 4 game series.
CUI 3, APU 7
The third game of the series between the Cougars and the Golden Eagles went in the favor of APU, with CUI falling 7-3. After a rocky start in the first couple of innings, CUI's defense tightened, and reliever Kira Morris brought stability on the mound, holding APU scoreless over the final three innings.Offensively, CUI kept chipping away. In the 3rd, a patient rally was sparked by back-to-back singles from Villa and Im, followed by a composed RBI knock from Robles. Then in the 6th, the Eagles caught fire again with a two-out rally. Cortez and Campbell each punched base hits before Faulk delivered the biggest swing of the day for CUI — a scorching 2-RBI triple to the corner in left, narrowing the gap to just four.
Though the early deficit proved too steep to fully overcome, the Eagles outhit Azusa 9–8 and showed depth off the bench, with contributions from Maddie Cortez, Gabby Villa, and Noelani Ching.
Jessica Im had the consistent bat in game 1, going an almost perfect 3-4. Im currently has the second highest average on the Golden Eagles squad with .345. Caitlynn Campbell went 2-3 with a bunt single and a single through the middle.
CUI 2 , APU 1
The final game of this series was a close game until the very end, when CUI's Jessica Im hit the go-ahead RBI single to put the Golden Eagles ahead of the Cougars.
Before that happened, the Golden Eagles set the tone early with aggressive baserunning and a steady offensive presence. Kayla Rodgers stayed hot with a first-inning single and swipe of second base, and Caitlynn Campbell opened the scoring in the third with a laser double to the gap to bring home Maddie Cortez.
Then came the defining blow in the top of the 7th. With two outs and a runner in scoring position, Jessica Im ripped a double to center, plating Kaliya Yco for what would stand as the winning run. The Cougars were unable to come back from the deficit.
