LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Concordia women's water polo team triumphed over the No. 8 seed Santa Clara to conclude their time in the Golden Coast Conference. Concordia overcame the back-and-forth battle 11-9 and captured the seventh-place spot.
Despite the initial tie in the first period, Concordia went on to outscore the Broncos for the remainder of the game. Hannah Edwards started the momentum for the Golden Eagles with a fast sprint through the water. She went on to score the first goal of the match on a power-play. She also won the first three sprints.
Following close behind was Anna Tyukasz and Munroe Blem. A GCC All-Freshmen honoree, Tyukasz successfully led the Golden Eagles with four goals in the thrilling showdown. Munroe Blem and Sierrah Ferguson were fierce in the water and combined for five more goals together, contributing to Concordia's growing lead. Presley Acosta also made her presence known with a goal in the third period. Mattie Herzog and Emeline Smiley were credited with two recorded assists as well.
Santa Clara's effort to rally in the second half was fruitless in the end. Sophomore goalie Jaden Soto racked up 19 saves.
The Green and the Gold claimed the seventh-place spot after the 11-9 victory. The Golden Eagles closed out the season with an overall record of 7-23.
Concordia will compete in the Western Water Polo Association in the upcoming 2025-2026 season.
