Golden Eagles Close Out the 2025 Season on a High Note

Hayward, Calif - The Golden Eagles ended the 2025 season with an outstanding record of 41-16 as well as their third consecutive PacWest championship trophy. CUI ended their season in the NCAA West Regionals, hosted by Cal State East Bay in Hayward, California. On Friday, CUI faced Sonoma State in what would become their last game as a program, winning the game 6-4, and then advancing to play Cal State East Bay in an elimination game which ended in the Pioneers favor 3-1.

CUI 6, SSU 4

In the first elimination game of the day, CUI erupted in the first inning, scoring five runs. The inning started when Kayla Rodgers wore a pitch and was rewarded with first base and then stole second base,  and quickly after this Audrey Robles followed up with a single to center field, scoring Rodgers. The next three batters walked which loaded the bases, and senior Shelli Faulk doubled to left field after a pitching change, which scored three runs for CUI.

Sonoma State was unable to respond until the top of the fourth inning, scoring one run and then did not score again until the following inning. Senior Shelli Faulk went a perfect two-for-two with the base clearing double in the first inning, and then a single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Robles contributed with an RBI single, and senior Kayla Simpson also went one-for-two.

Freshman Kailey Estes started in the circle for the Golden Eagles after a strong outing against Western Washington the previous day. Estes pitched a total of 5.0 innings and faced 23 batters and only allowed seven hits while striking out five. Then, senior Bella Calvo came in for the final two innings in relief and only allowed one solo hit while striking out three.

CUI escaped with the win, which allowed them to advanced to face the Pioneers from Cal State East Bay in the final elimination game of the day.

CUI 1, CSUEB 3

In what ended up being the final game of the season for the Golden Eagles, CUI showed a lot of potential against the No. 15 Pioneers from Cal State East Bay.

The Golden Eagles matched the Pioneers punch-for-punch through the early innings, with the game tied 1–1 after the first frame. After Cal State East Bay's Garcia scored on a two-out single from Carrillo in the top of the first, Concordia responded quickly. Kaliya Yco ripped an RBI single to right field to bring home Rodgers, who had earlier tripled.

Sophomore Kira Morris led the way for CUI in the circle, and freshman Kacie Gossett came in to close the game out for Morris. Both pitchers pitched around 3.0 innings. Morris worked through early trouble, stranding three runners in the first and limiting further damage until being relieved in the fourth. The Golden Eagles' bullpen, led by reliever Gossett, kept the Pioneers off the board after the fourth inning.

Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles were unable to come back from the deficit, and fell to the Pioneers with a final score of 3-1

The Green and Gold will say goodbye to seniors Shelli Faulk, Shelby Pfeiler, Kendall Flatt, Bella Calvo, Kayla Simpson, as well as graduate student Kayla Rodgers. Thank you seniors for all you have poured into Concordia softball!

All good things come to an end, and another successful season for the Golden Eagles will go down in the books.
