IRVINE, Calif. - Two goals were scored on Saturday night and fortunately for the host Concordia Golden Eagles, the first one of the night was by the home team.
Elle Soleau put the Golden Eagles ahead in the 69th minute of action. Soleau cut across the box and stayed with her effort after
Hailey Havican efforted to get the ball over to her. A defender put a foot on the ball to prevent an immediate connection, but then Soleau broke to the right by herself and deposited a neat shot past the keeper to score the unassisted goal.
The newcomer had just scored her first career goal for Concordia this past Wednesday in a 2-0 triumph over Cal State Dominguez Hills.Â
It appeared as if Soleau had collected her second game-winning goal of the month until the Cougars found a sliver of an opening on the other end. Addison Leite was able to briefly possess the ball and get off a shot that found the back of the net for the equalizer
That made it 1-1 in the 84th minute and neither team was able to convert after that. CUI did put together a few more shots, including a soaring attempt by freshman
Avery Munoz, who is the younger sister of recent CUI alum
Sophia Munoz. But alas, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The result did extend Concordia's home unbeaten streak to 15-0-2 over its past 17 games played in Irvine. Dating back almost two full years, the CUI have not lost since the 2023 home opener against Cal State LA. Cal State San Marcos on Saturday joined Chaminade as the only visiting teams to earn a draw when playing at Concordia during that span.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is a home matinee with Northwest Nazarene this coming Thursday, Sept. 18 at 12 p.m.Â
