IRVINE, Calif. – After two sterling performances, Concordia University Irvine sophomore
Genesis Hopkins was recognized for the second straight time as PacWest Conference Defender of the Week.
Hopkins collected two double-doubles this past road trip to help Concordia pick up wins over Fresno Pacific and Jessup up north.
After reviewing the final stats, Hopkins tallied a career-high 17 rebounds to go with 12 points and six blocks against the Sunbirds.
CUI cruised past FPU to a double-digit victory last Thursday and led by as many as 32 points in the second half.
Then on Saturday against the Warriors, Hopkins delivered another solid stat line with 12 points, 15 rebounds and three more blocks. This means she has tallied a double-double in four of her last five games.
CUI dominated the second half against Jessup, outscoring the Warriors by 14 points after intermission.
She averaged 12.0 points, 16.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks on the week to help Concordia improve to 6-4 in conference play.

"Genesis works her way into success every single day," said CUI head coach
Christine Collins-Kiernan. "She is relentless about finding the right way to be great at this sport—attacking every rep in practice, stacking film sessions, and breaking down her skill work with purpose. Her mindset and competitive drive set the standard for our program. Back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week honors are earned, and she earns everything."
The Golden Eagles head out to Hawaii on Tuesday to play a pair out on the islands this coming week. That begins with a date at Hawaii Hilo on Thursday night before a visit to the Shark Tank on Saturday at HPU.
