IRVINE, Calif. - That's two consecutive outstanding defensive efforts by the Concordia women's basketball team in a span of barely 48 hours.
The Golden Eagles limited visiting Chaminade to only 38 total points on Saturday night, cruising to a 70-38 victory. Head Coach Christine Collins Kiernan's team is now 5-1 in its last six PacWest contests.
Myia Collins scored 18 points and
Camryn Kiernan 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman
Asia Darcuiel and sophomore post
Genesis Hopkins combined for 15 points, four steals and eight rebounds. Hopkins also racked up two more blocks.
Concordia held Chaminade to a measly 24 percent shooting from the field - for the entire game - and forced 20 turnovers by the Silverswords.
"Closing out January on a win streak and finishing the week successfully is important for us as we continue to look for tangible examples of growth," said Coach Collins-Kiernan. "We had to fight through a very physical game plan and weather some adversity, and I was proud of our response. We had some really strong defensive stretches, and in a game that disrupted our rhythm, our defense had to lead us. Camryn played a great game on both sides of the ball and continues to come up with big plays with her experience—a double-double from a guard is always impressive. It was also great to see Myia find her rhythm offensively. Now it's time to take on a challenging February and see where we land."
Currently CUI stacks up in the top half of the league and is tied for fifth with Dominican with a solid 9-5 record in conference play.
