IRVINE, Calif. -
Bryan Maldonado scored his fourth goal of the season off a pass from
Andy Jun to help Concordia take an early lead over their opposition from Vanguard on Saturday evening.
A rare rainy day in Southern California proved to make for slick conditions and more sliding than usual from both teams.
CUI outshot the Lions 18-9 and mustered 10 corner kicks to only two for Vangaurd.
Goalkeeper
Leo Ripert made his Concordia debut and fashioned himself with a pair of saves. The Golden Eagles were in control in the first half and took a 1-0 advantage into the halftime locker room.
But to Vanguard's credit, the Lions regrouped and were able to score three times in the second half and earned an unorthodox 3-1 win in the rain.
CUI heads to Northern California next week to visit Dominican and Jessup during fall break.
The next home game will be the last of the regular season when CUI hosts Biola on Halloween for Senior Night starting at 6:15 p.m. PT. It will follow the women's Senior Night game which is at 3 p.m. earlier that same day.
