CUI Clashes With No. 9 LMU

Ianora Scores Three Times & CUI Wins All Four Sprints With Nationally-Ranked Lions

IRVINE, Calif. - Concordia welcomed No. 9 LMU and former goalie Pablo de Souza to Irvine on Friday afternoon in a clash of two teams with postseason plans.

The Golden Eagles won all four sprints to start each period with the first possession. A goal by Joao Goncalves gave Concordia a 2-1 advantage a few minutes into the game.

But the Lions rattled off six unanswered goals during the end of the first period and first few minutes of the second to gain some separation.

CUI kept competing and chipped away at the lead. Dante Soldati Ianora was the main main in the middle and cashed in for three goals. The Golden Eagles had to fight for every possession and scoring opportunity and they were not afraid to do so.

Nicolas Fuchs added two scores and an assist and Hugo Wouters had four points with one goal and a team-high three assists.

Senior Kaliq Khan also scored twice - including one late in the second period right before halftime - to help the cause. Wes Brazda added one goal and two helpers.  Caleb Luby also got on the board off a sweet pass by Levi Riegelmann in the fourth.

Former CUI All-American Pablo De Souza made his return to Woolett and played the first three periods for the Lions. He collected six saves and earned the victory. Derek Maddox and Ethan Sutherland split time in the cage for the Green and Gold and both came up with multiple saves to help the cause.

Concordia's next game will be a rematch with local rival Biola on Friday, Oct 30 at 7:30 p.m. PT at Woollett Aquatics Center.

The Golden Eagles won the first meeting on Thursday in La Mirada by the count of 16-11. Khan scored three goals to lead the CUI offense in that victory as the squad improved to 3-0 in WWPA action.
