IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia Golden Eagles secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming four-team PacWest Conference Tournament and will play tournament host Hawaii Hilo on Thursday.
Concordia captured a 3-1 home victory on Senior Night to cement its place in the standings. The Golden Eagles had already clinched a spot in the upcoming conference tournament after
Wednesday's thrilling road win over Westmont.
This game featured the two top scorers in the entire league in Concordia's
Ashley Grubert and Biola's Briley Phelps.
Grubert and Phelps wound up finishing the regular season tied with 12 goals each to share the scoring title. Wow neither player scored in this match, Grubert did pick up another point as she assisted on the first goal of the game, which was scored by fellow senior
Antonella Russo.
Another CUI senior,
Bella Barrett capitalized shortly after intermission to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage. After
Irandy Erazo fought for position near midfield, the ball squirted towards Barrett, who picked up steam and dribbled right down the middle of the pitch. She wound up with a 1-on-1 opportunity and made the most of it, scoring one more time on her home pitch.
Sophomore
Ella Cook also scored later in the second half to provide some insurance. It was especially meaningful for her as her parents had made the trip to Southern California this week from Canada and got to enjoy that moment in person.
Biola avoided the shutout with a late goal but the outcome was already secured.
Christina Sidoti made multiple timely saves and was credited with three official stops. Senior
Bella Miseroy also made an appearance and helped close out the contest on Senior Night.
Next up for Concordia is a rematch with Hawaii Hilo, who fought the Green and Gold to a scoreless draw earlier this season in Irvine.
That semifinal will take place at 2:30 p.m. local HT (and 4:30 p.m. PT) out on Hawaii Hilo's home field. The winner advances to Saturday's PacWest Championship Game against either No. 1 seed Point Loma or No. 4 seed Biola.

Concordia finishes the regular season with a sterling 10-2-4 record and won five of its last six conference games. Point Loma is the only team to defeat CUI this year and the Golden Eagles may get another chance at the Sea Lions depending on how the bracket turns out.
