IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team was awarded the PacWest Conference Team of the Week after their wins over Chaminade and Hawai'i Pacific, going 2-0 on the week. Defender Drew Zevallos was also named the PacWest Defender of the Week, marking his first conference award of his Concordia career.
Zavellos played all 180 minutes in the two games combined while only allowing 1 goal to get in the net.
"Drew has been a brilliant addition to the squad," said CUI head coach Josh Glover.
Glover added, "His defensive intelligence and ability to snuff out danger, coupled with ball playing ability has been significant for us. We're looking forward to seeing him continue to grow and be a rock at the back."
The Golden Eagles beat the Silverswords 1-0. Defender Jonathan Moreno scored the only goal of the game and Moreno's second of the season. He was assisted by midfielder Marcus Ozmai and midfielder Angel Reyes.
The men then went on to beat HPU by a final score of 2-1. The Golden Eagles were propelled by a goal from forward Andy Jun in the first half and a clutch goal in the 83rd minute by Ozmai to double the lead and earn the eventual victory.
CUI is now 6-4-1 overall and 2-1 in PacWest Conference play.
Zevallos and the rest of the men look to continue their momentum of a good week into their next match on Saturday, Oct. 10 against Vanguard back at home. The game will kick off at 6:15 p.m. PT.
