From Shutout to Run-Rule

Atherton, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles delivered a dominant sweep over Menlo College on Sunday afternoon at Wunderlich Field, cruising to a 7-0 shutout in game one before erupting for a 13-2 victory in game two. Concordia combined timely hitting and strong pitching performances to improve to 14-5 overall on the season.

CUI 7, MENLO 0

Concordia struck early in the opener. After Kaliya Yco drew a walk and stole second, Veronica Moore drove her in with a single through the left side to give CUI a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the third, capitalizing on defensive miscues before Caitlynn Campbell delivered an RBI double to extend the advantage to 3-0. Concordia broke the game open in the fifth inning when Noelani Ching launched a grand slam to left center, pushing the lead to 7-0.

Ching finished with four RBIs, while Campbell added a hit and an RBI. Moore and Morgan Kneubuhle also drove in runs as Concordia worked seven walks and made the most of its scoring opportunities.

In the circle, Kira Morris earned the win after tossing five shutout innings and allowing just three hits. Paetynn Snobar closed out the final two innings to secure the shutout as the Golden Eagles limited Menlo to five hits on the day.

CUI 13, MENLO 2

The Golden Eagles' offense stayed hot in game two, scoring 13 runs on 15 hits in a run-rule victory.

Moore set the tone in the second inning with a solo home run to open the scoring. Concordia plated five runs in the frame, highlighted by RBI hits from Audrey Robles, Maddie JeanBlanc, Jessica Im, and a run-scoring double from Yco.

CUI continued to add on in the third and fourth innings. Alyssa Struthers delivered a standout performance, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs scored, and two RBIs. JeanBlanc finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Robles added two hits and two RBIs. The Golden Eagles tallied 15 hits as a team.

Jayden Nishi earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs across four innings of work. Snobar entered in relief to close out the victory and secure the sweep.

NEXT UP:

Concordia and Menlo will conclude the series tomorrow with another doubleheader. First pitch is set for 10:00 a.m., with game two scheduled for 12:30 p.m. as the Golden Eagles look to finish the series strong.
