IRVINE, Calif. - Keonna Gutierrez Dearmond and
Kristyna Dvorakova battled their way to victory against the Westmont Warriors during the CUI women's tennis home opener on Tuesday.
Concordia University Irvine earned points at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in singles thanks to that pairing. Dearmond won 6-2, 6-2 in commanding fashion to secure Concordia's first point of the day. Dvorakova outlasted her opponent at the No. 2 court with a 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 victory to close out the day.
Dearmond also teamed with
Bryn Johnson at No. 1 doubles. The pair was trailing 2-1 in a tight match when Westmont clinched the doubles point.
Westmont won the match 5-2. Concordia played shorthanded with five players, so Westmont began the match up 1-0 (due to a forfeit at No. 6 singles) and then won at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots to clinch that fourth point for the victory.
The next opportunity for the Golden Eagles to take the courts will be on March 10 at Point Loma at 2 p.m.
Concordia plans to celebrate Senior Day during their next scheduled home match which is Saturday, March 20 at 12 p.m. PT against Stanton.
