ROCKLIN, Calif. – The CUI baseball team wrapped up their series against Jessup and split on the day and ended up splitting the series 2-2. The Golden Eagles move to 9-11 overall and 7-5 in PacWest play.
Game 1: CUI 2, JESSUP 1
Wyatt Madison started on the mound while being in the batter order as a designated hitter. Madison turned in a dominant performance on the mound tossing a complete seven shutout innings to earn the win. He was in full command from the first pitch scattering five hits while striking out seven and walking none.
Caden Miller closed the door over the final two innings to secure his first save of the season. Though he allowed one run Miller limited the damage and induced key outs finishing with one strikeout and three ground-ball outs to preserve the victory.
In a game defined by pitching and precision defense
Makamae Du Pont provided the lone spark of power launching a solo home run to account for the Golden Eagles only RBI in a tightly contested match up.
Du Pont finished 2-for-4 at the plate scoring once and driving in one with his long ball.
Dylan Knowles crossed the plate in h eighth frame. Short stop
Isaiah Walz led the team in hits collecting two knocks at the top of the lineup.
Landry Spitler and Madison each added a hit while
Jordan Bolden and
Nolan Caira worked key walks to keep innings alive.
Game 2: CUI 3, JESSUP 13
At the top of the lineup Walz set the tone early going 2-for-2 scoring a run and reached base three times. Outfielders
Sawyer Voortman and
Nicolas Erickson also delivered at the plate with two hits each.
The Warriors pitching did not allow CUI to score until the top of the sixth inning.
Anthony Pacino made his presence on the field to pinch hit and delivered a single through the right side and moved into scoring position from a passed ball.
Carter Vanderhook walked and a fly out from
Owen Gott moved Pacino to third. Voortman hit an RBI knock followed by an RBI double from Erickson to put up two runs.
The pitching staff used five arms with
Evan Langer starting on the bump going 1.1 innings and striking out two.
Jayden Daya and
Alessandro Martinez went a combined 2.2 innings while striking out four.
Luka Brancato delivered the most efficient appearance with a clean one-inning outing with no hits or runs allowed.
Luis Ricardo Acevedo closed out the effort with one inning allowing one run and recording a strikeout.
The CUI baseball team will be back in action Friday Feb. 27 on the road against Menlo with an 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. start time. They will finish their series and road trip Saturday Feb. 28 slated for the same times.
