Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. – With ten teams vying for six spots in the upcoming PacWest Conference tournament, Thursday's game between Concordia and Biola seemed almost like an early playoff game.
Both squads entered the night in the mix and it was a tight first half as expected. It took Concordia just three minutes to vault in front after trailing by five at halftime. Biola came out cold thanks to the Golden Eagles defense and Concordia rattled off a quick 7-0 run.
Nick Corbett spun his way for a nifty layup to tie the contest at 33-33. On the next possession, before Biola could get back to setup its halfcourt defense,
MaCarhy Morris threw a touchdown pass to a streaking
Kaden Minter for the go-ahead layup.
But then Biola's offense came to life and the host Eagles went on a 12-5 run. That made it 45-38 Biola midway through the second half.
After trading free throws,
MaCarhy Morris banked in an off-balance jumper with the hoop and the harm. Then
Nick Corbett converted a pair of shots in the paint and suddenly it was a one possession game again, 47-45 Biola.
Back and forth the local rivals went, and ultimately Biola held on to fend off the comeback effort by the Golden Eagles down the stretch. The final score was 70-58 in favor of the Red and Black.
Corbett led CUI in scoring with 16 points and six rebounds. Morris added 14 points
CUI is now 11-10 in PacWest play and 14-13 overall. Biola improved to 10-11 in conference play but both teams still have one game left.
