Hot Bats of Du Pont and Walz Keep Rolling

Makamae Du Pont and Isaiah Walz Extend Their Hit Streak To 12

IRVINE, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine baseball squad lit up the scoreboard on Saturday against Biola racking up an impressive 26 hits in the doubleheader and keeping the pressure on at every at-bat. Although they split on the day again the Golden Eagles move to 13-15 overall and 11-9 in PacWest play.

Game 1: CUI 11, BU 1 (7 Innings)

Wyatt Madison put on a masterful performance tossing six strong innings and keeping Biola off the scoreboard. The junior allowed just two hits and struck out eight. Michael Panichi followed in relief coming in for the seventh inning and only gave up two hits and one run.

The Golden Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Makamae Du Pont singled to center field to drive in Isaiah Walz for the early lead. CUI added another run in the second as Walz delivered an RBI triple to left-center field bringing home Sawyer Voortman and extending the advantage to 2–0.

After a few quiet innings CUI created separation in the fifth. Ian Stewart singled to left field to score Nicolas Erickson, and Landry Spitler followed with an RBI groundout that plated Nolan Caira to make it 4–0.

The Green and Gold broke the game open in the sixth inning with a four-run rally. Du Pont came through again with a two-run single down the left field followed by Caira hitting a triple to bring in Du Pont and later scored stretching the lead to 8–0.

Biola got on the board in the seventh inning but that would be the only run scored during the game. Concordia quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning as Dylan Knowles launched a three-run home run to left-center field to secure the 11–1 victory for the Golden Eagles and end with a mercy rule.

Shortstop Isaiah Walz led the charge for CUI with an outstanding performance at the plate. Walz went 3-for-4 including a triple while scoring three runs and driving in one. Nolan Caira also turned in a big day offensively going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Wyatt Madison reached base in all five of his plate appearances finishing 2-for-2 with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. The middle of the lineup provided the biggest run production. Dylan Knowles delivered a key home run and finished 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

Makamae Du Pont matched that RBI total going 2-for-4 with three runs driven in. Ian Stewart collected two hits in four at-bats and drove in a run and Nicolas Erickson added a hit and a run scored.

Concordia struck first in the opening inning with an RBI double from Knowles bringing home Madison to give the Eagles an early 1–0 advantage. Biola responded in the next two innings taking a 3-1 lead.

CUI quickly answered in the bottom of the third as Walz powered a two-run home run down the left-field line to tie the game at 3–3 sparking a strong offensive stretch for the Golden Eagles. Moments later Knowles brought in Madison with a groundout giving Concordia a 4–3 lead.
