MALIBU, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine beach volleyball team wrapped up the second day of the Asics Classic on Saturday, falling 4-2 to Tulane in the morning dual before dropping a 5-0 decision to Pepperdine in the afternoon.

CUI 2, TULANE 3

The Green and Gold battled in its first dual of the day, earning two points from the middle of the lineup against Tulane.

Ashley Rossi and Kelia Giusta led the way at the No. 2 position with a solid 21-13, 21-18 victory to put CUI on the board. Shortly after, Madi Kelly and Rosie Cline delivered the team's most hard-fought win at the No. 4 flight. After dropping the opening set 18-21, the duo responded with a dominant 21-13 second set and closed out the match in the tiebreaker, 15-11.

Tulane controlled the remaining courts to secure the dual victory including a win over pair of Aliyah Moore and Gabby Reinking 21-13, 21-10 at No. 1 position.  Lexi Godbey and Olivia Medina were defeated 21-11, 21-11 at the No. 3 position.

The Green Wave secured the win at No. 5, adding the final point over Jordan Vander Veen and Jayda Tupea 21-13, 21-11. 

CUI 0, PEPPERDINE 5

In the afternoon dual, CUI faced a nationally ranked Pepperdine team that proved difficult to slow down, as the Waves earned a 5-0 sweep.

Pepperdine clinched the dual at the No. 2 position, where Ashley Rossi and Kelia Giusta battled but were ultimately defeated in straight sets.

The Waves secured early momentum with a win at the No. 4 court over Madi Kelly and Rosie Cline, followed by another point at No. 2 to take control of the match. The Golden Eagles  competed across the lineup, with Aliyah Moore and Gabby Reinking at the top flight and Lexi Godbey and Olivia Medina at No. 3 both pushing through tough matchups.

The Golden Eagles look to regroup at home on Tuesday, March 24 for a pair of duals against UC Davis at 12:00 p.m. before closing the day against Vanguard at 2:00 p.m. at OC Great Park.
