IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's tennis played their last home game at the Racquet Club in Irvine and took off two points from Stan State. This is only the second meeting between the two teams in which the first one was a decade ago at the PacWest tournament.
Doubles play proved to be a difficult opening phase for the Golden Eagles with Stan State taking early control. The pairing of
Bryn Johnson and
Keona Gutierrez Dearmond fell 6–3 at the No. 1 slot while
Mikayla Avila and
Ashley Aziz faced a tough 6–0 result in the No. 2 position.
CUI responded with impressive energy in singles competition. At the top of the lineup Johnson delivered a standout performance earning straight-sets victory over the Warriors with scores 7–5 and 6–2.
Kristyna Dvorakova followed with a dominant showing at No. 2 singles cruising to a 6–2 and 6–0 win.
Gutierrez Dearmond took off two games over Stanislaus in the second set.
Mikayla Avila and
Ashley Aziz had stiff competition as they dropped each set. After
Mianna Robinson dropped the first match 0-6 she bounced back leaving it all on the court with a 5-7 finish on the match.
