CUI Races Away From Adams State

Carresi & Lepore Lead The Way As CUI Capitalizes With Second Half Surge

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Playing for the first time since officially clinching a spot in the upcoming RMAC Tournament, the Concordia Golden Eagles turned on the turbo jets in the second half to collect an 18-8 win over Adams State at a neutral site.

Concordia University Irvine was facing the Grizzlies but the contest was hosted by fellow RMAC program Westminster.

Recent USILA Honoree and RMAC Player of the Week Jack Lepore joined Matt Carresi in leading the CUI offense. Both Lepore and Carresi each scored four goals. Carresi led the Green and Gold with seven points and all three of his assists came on feeds to Lepore.

Adams State played an inspired first half and led 3-1 before the Golden Eagles flipped the script. Lepore's goal made it 7-6 CUI shortly before intermission.

Between the second part of the second period and the first handful of minutes in the third, Concordia rattled off seven straight goals to seize advantage of the contest.

The Golden Eagles never looked back and ultimately outscored Adams State 11-2 after halftime. This included zero goals allowed by CUI in the third period.

CUI goalie Brody Woods patrolled the crease for the last two and a half periods to earn the win.

Concordia controlled the Face off X with Dawson Loudermilk dominating with 15 wins in 19 tries. Tony Pucci also had a hand in that success with five face off wins, as CUI won 67 percent (20-of-30) of the time on draws.

Erik Hollis and Jeremy Barnes scored twice to help the cause. Meanwhile, sophomore Noah Pillow had multiple points with one goal and one assist.

They were joined in the scoring column by Cameron Regenstreif, Gabriel Skegin-Sipes, Jack Tanner and Parker Teel, who all found the back of the net once. Freshman Jack Finneran also scored his first career goal with Concordia.

The Griffins are hosting multiple neutral site games this week to help close out the regular season schedule.

Concordia concludes its visit to Utah with a rematch against perennial conference favorite Colorado Mesa.

That game is slated to start at 5 p.m. PT (and 6 p.m. local MT) this Saturday, April 18.
