Golden Eagles Top Cal Poly Pomona For First Time In Volleyball Program History!

CUI Tops Cal Poly Pomona, Returns Home for Orange County Classic

Pomona, Calif. - The Golden Eagles continued their strong start to the season with a four-set victory over Cal Poly Pomona at the Yotes Classic Showcase.

The Golden Eagles defeated the Broncos 3-1, finishing the match with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set to secure the win. It was also the first time in program history that Concordia had defeated Cal Poly Pomona in volleyball.

Concordia's lineup contributed throughout, with freshman Livia Eyre leading the CUI attack with 13 kills. Eyre recorded 13 kills on 37 attempts, while Kayden Croy added 12 kills and hit .370 with only two errors on 27 swings. 

CUI had several other players contribute offensively. Nevada Knowles finished with seven kills and hit .455, while Delaney Gregg added eight kills and hit .313. Emma Wegleitner also recorded seven kills and a dozen digs for the Golden Eagles. The pace and physicality of the game were neck and neck, but the Golden Eagles continued to apply pressure and to finish the game out on a high. 

Sarah Ybarra led Cal Poly Pomona with 12 kills, while Charlotte Koerber tallied nine. The Golden Eagles were able to hold off the Broncos and finish the match strong with a 25-19 fourth-set win. With the Yotes Classic Showcase behind them, the Golden Eagles now return to Irvine for their first home tournament of the season. 

All-Tournament Team Time

Knowles and Wegleitner were selected as member of the All-Tournament Team on Saturday evening. Knowles handed out 30 or more assists in all four of Concordia's contests this week, as the Golden Eagles hit .278 overall. 

Wegleitner also had a team-high 22 kills against Seattle Pacific and collected a double-double in the win over Cal State LA with 12 digs to go with 12 kills. 

UP NEXT

CUI will host the Orange County Classic beginning Thursday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. inside CU Arena. This match will also serve as the Golden Eagles' 2026 home opener against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
