CUI Goes Toe-To-Toe With No. 18 Cal State San Bernardino

Golden Eagles Hold Their Ground Against Nationally-Ranked Coyotes

IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles proved they were up to the task of taking on No. 18 Cal State San Bernardino - as well as the heat - on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Angel Reyes scored the first goal of the game in the 25th minute of action. Senior Andy Jun dealt with multiple defenders and broke free for a moment to setup Reyes for the timely strike.

It was 1-0 Concordia with the Green and Gold thinking upset. But then CSUSB's Nevin Rueegger capitalized on a ball down the right flank and sent the ball soaring towards the back left corner of the net for the equalizer.

A solid first half performance saw the score all square at 1-1 heading into intermission.

Dylan Graham was able to get one shot past the goalkeeper in the second half, but it took an unlucky bounce off the left post and back into the action.

Graham, Bryan Maldonado and Angel Reyes all did their best to get quality shots off late in the second half but Cal State San Bernardino's goalie Donovan Palomares was up for the task and finished with six saves.

CUI heads to Fresno Pacific next this Saturday, Sept. 12 for a non-conference match that begins at 7 p.m. It will be the first of three straight road matches on the non-conference slate as CUI is the midst of a six-game stretch that includes five road contests.

The Golden Eagles are back home again for their PacWest Conference opener against Hawaii Hilo on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
