GOLDEN, Colo. - The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team defeated Colorado School of Mines, 4-1.
The Golden Eagles struck first to go up 1-0. In the 28th minute, the men took advantage of a turnover just outside the Orediggers' box. Forward Andy Jun assisted midfielder Marcus Ozmai for his first goal of the season.
After an assist in the 1st half, Jun scored his second goal of the season to double the lead for CUI. This goal was assisted by forward Bryan Maldonado, his first of the season.
Concordia continued to add to the lead with the first goal for midfielder Jonas Pearson in his young collegiate career. The goal was a long ball that was scored in the 72nd minute. The goal was assisted by defender Hugo Viramontes, his first assist of the year.
Colorado School of Mines added a goal to make the score 3-1 in the 80th minute. In the 87th minute, forward George Peterson added to the list of firsts for the Golden Eagles with his first goal in the green and gold. Pearson gets credited with the assist, which is his first of his career.
The men finish a very successful road trip going 1-0-1.
"For me the most important thing was that everyone played their role today, said CUI head coach Josh Glover.
"Everyone fought through every moment. From injured guys, to the bench to every player on the field. It was a full team effort and Jonathan Moreno's leadership was key."
The Golden Eagles return home for their next game as they take on Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday, Sept. 9th. The game will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. PT.
