CUI Cruises Past Menlo With Third Straight Sweep

IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI women's volleyball team closed out the Orange County Classic on a high note powering past Menlo for a third consecutive sweep. The Golden Eagles controlled the match from start to finish setting the tone early and never letting up as they cruised to victories of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-14.
 
Leading the charge offensively was Kayden Croy who powered CUI with a team-high 13 kills. Croy also made an impact across the court adding a service ace, two block assists and four digs in a strong all-around performance.
 
Sophomore Sofia Ajmal was nearly unstoppable when she attacked putting away four kills on just nine swings for a team-best .444 hitting percentage. She also made her presence felt at the net with a solo block and two block assists while adding two digs.
 
Emma Wegleitner continued to provide a steady offensive spark recording 11 kills. She added a service ace, three block assists and seven digs helping keep the Green and Gold attack moving throughout the match. Livia Eyre added eight kills and matched a team-high with nine digs delivering valuable production on both sides of the net.
 
Middle Sarah Guglielmana established herself as a defensive force racking up a team-high and career-high seven block assists while also contributing three kills. Delaney Gregg added to CUI's presence at the net with three kills and three block assists.
 
Behind the offense Nevada Knowles helped orchestrate the Golden Eagles attack while making an impact defensively. Knowles tallied 19 assists, nine digs and three service aces. Keely Harrington also provided a spark off the bench dishing out 14 assists and four digs. Kendyll Winn bolstered the defensive effort with eight digs while Leah Hernandez made an immediate impact from the service line with three aces.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in the CU Arena as they host Westmont for the PacWest conference opener on Wednesday Sept. 9 with a 6 p.m. start time.
