Mike Rubio joined the CUI men's soccer coaching staff in the summer of 2024 and primarily assists as a scout analyst.
After graduating high school in 1993, Mike immediately began his soccer coaching career at his alma mater, Katella High School in 1994. Mike met CUI head coach Erik Kirsch in 1999, who at that time was one the coaching coordinators for the Mission Viejo Pateadores soccer club. Erik brought Mike into the club, and going into his second year with the Pateadores, Mike was promoted as the club’s first Youth Coordinator. Together Mike & Erik went on to build one of the best youth club programs in Southern California. They are teaming up again to make CUI the best men’s college program in SoCal.
Mike received his B.A. from Cal State Fullerton and his Master's of Coaching and Athletic Administration from CUI. Mike holds a USSF “B” coaching license and has been coaching competitively for 30 years. He’s currently the Boys Director of Coaching for the S.O.C. Pateadores chapter. Over the years, Mike has served as a Director of Coaching and/or Coaching Coordinator for a couple of local S. Orange County soccer clubs. He’s worked with all levels of teams/players from young kids to adults.
Mike also works with MGR Sports Tours where he takes teams overseas to compete and experience what soccer is like in other parts of the world. Mike’s taken teams to compete in Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Spain, England and Brazil.
Mike also sits on the board of directors for
Futbl.org, a non-profit organization that collects used soccer cleats & gear, refurbishes them, then donates them to less fortunate kids around the world.
Mike lives in the city of Orange with his wife Karen (of 21 years), two sons and daughter. The Rubios are members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Old Town Orange where they got married and had all 3 children baptized. He hopes to be able to help the team and his colleagues by sharing the knowledge gained from the experiences the Lord has provided him with, while also learning from them, as they all help the team grow physically & spiritually."
