Nico D’Angelo is in his first year serving as a graduate assistant coach for the Concordia University Irvine men’s water polo team. He is pursuing his master's degree in Coaching and Exercise Science after earning his bachelor’s degree in Human Communication with a minor in Marketing from California State University, Fullerton in 2025.
D’Angelo began his aquatic career in Napa, California, attending Vintage High School, where he competed in both water polo and swimming from 2017–2021. During his high school career, he was a three-time All-Conference First Team selection, League MVP, Team MVP, and Senior Athlete of the Year.
In 2021, D’Angelo continued his career at Golden West College, where he played from 2019–2022 and earned an associate degree in Communications. During his time with the Rustlers, he helped the program win two Orange Empire Conference Championships, two SoCal Championships, and two CCCAA State Championships.
D’Angelo then transferred to Cal State Fullerton, where he competed at the Division I level from 2023–2025 and served as a three time captain. During his CSUF career, he recorded 108 goals and 86 assists, finishing second all-time in program history in assists and third all time in goals. As a graduate, he recorded 39 goals and 33 assists for 72 points, including a 10-game scoring streak and 13 multi goal games. His honors included two ACWPC All-Academic selections, Academic All-Big West recognition, and the Big West Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award as a junior. During his senior year, he received the Big West Service and Leadership Award.
Alongside his playing career, D’Angelo has developed a passion for coaching and athlete development. He has coached multiple teams and age groups at Newport Beach Water Polo Club, helping teams earn medals at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics. In 2026, he led the Newport Beach 10 and under team to a Junior Olympics national championship.
D’Angelo now brings his playing, leadership, and coaching experience to CUI as he continues his development as a coach and pursues his master’s degree.
