JonKeith Barnes

As a first-year volunteer assistant coach at Concordia, JonKeith Barnes brings a passion for athlete development, relationship-building, and competitive excellence to the collegiate softball environment. His coaching philosophy centers on developing the complete student-athlete by emphasizing character, accountability, work ethic, and personal growth. He is committed to creating a positive culture that challenges athletes to reach their highest potential both on and off the field.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Barnes built a strong coaching résumé through his work with Athletics Jendro and at the high school level. He has spent several years helping athletes develop their skills, confidence, and understanding of the game while competing at a high level. His experience includes mentoring players through the recruiting process, preparing teams for elite competition, and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Barnes is dedicated to lifelong learning and professional growth. He recently earned a Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletics Administration from Concordia University Irvine in May 2026. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree from California State University San Marcos in 2017. His educational background has provided him with a strong foundation in leadership, athlete development, sports psychology, and organizational management. Barnes also retired from the United States Marine Corps in 2013.

Most recently, Barnes served as the varsity softball head coach at Paloma Valley High School winning the Sun Belt league title for the first time in six years. During his tenure, he worked to establish a culture built on accountability, discipline, and team unity while helping student-athletes grow as competitors and young adults. His leadership extended beyond the field through a focus on academic success, character development, and preparation for future opportunities.

Away from coaching, Barnes enjoys spending time with his wife and their four daughters. Family serves as the foundation of his personal and professional life, shaping the values he brings to coaching every day. He believes that the lessons learned through sports—commitment, resilience, teamwork, and integrity—are the same principles that strengthen families, build communities, and prepare young people for success in life.
