Chadd Maurer

Chadd Maurer joined Concordia as assistant coach in August 2022.

Coach Maurer is a graduate of Simpson University in Redding, Calif.  Before transferring to Simpson, Maurer attended and swam at Golden West College, training under former USA Olympic Coach Mark Schubert and his father Tracy Maurer.  During his tenure at GWC, he led his team to a CCCAA state championship in addition to winning individual titles in the 100 and 200 freestyles.  At Simpson, Maurer was part of an inaugural swim team consisting of seven swimmers whose goal of becoming a top-10 program in the NAIA was realized with a 10th place finish at the NAIA National Championships in the 2021-22 season.

Maurer has been a coach at Golden West Swim Club for the past seven years and also volunteered his time coaching at Simpson his senior year.  His philosophy can be broken down to three things: Purpose, Leadership, Value.

Purpose: Providing a positive sport experience for athletes, providing the opportunity for athletes to achieve their full potential through sport, and using it as a holistic means of individual development.

Leadership: Team unity, discipline, mental toughness, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and a desire to compete.

Value: Physical safety and health of athletes, coaching responsibility, integrity in relations with others, respect for athletes and honoring sport.

Coach Maurer believes teaching athletes life lessons about hard work, dedication, and dealing honorably with success and failure because you will probably experience both at some point in time.  Success will be different for each individual but the common thread in team effort is doing it together, supporting each other and giving your best to create a positive work environment.  One of his mantras is to always give it your best and set goals to achieve, yet take it one day at a time.

Concordia’s sense of belonging is one of the things that drew Maurer to join the team in Irvine. He looks forward to creating memorable moments with the staff and team.
