Isaiah Simmons enters his second year coaching the throwing events.
During the indoor season he coached Sarah Stafford to another school record as she earned first team All-West Region honors in the Shot Put. During the outdoor season, all athletes set personal bests in various events. The throwers scored 75 points at the PacWest Championships helping the team to their highest point total in school history. Four throwers earned First Team All-PacWest Conference honors. Chais Hamilton and Ryan Woodard both finished 2nd and 4th in the Shot Put and Discus. Ryan Woodard also placed 5th in the hammer. Garrett Cash and Paul Romero placed 5th and 6th in the Javelin helping to add to the point total. The women were led by Stafford as she defended her title in the shot put and Alaysha Green finished 5th. Stafford and Dom Stein finished 2nd and 3rd in the hammer with Frost (4th) and Green (8th). Gabri Frost and Green finished 6th and 8th to continue to add to the point total.
Coach Simmons comes to us from Woodbridge, VA where he served as the throws coach at his alma mater - Woodbridge Senior High School and also at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, VA. There he coached multiple athletes to the VHSL 6A state championships where they earned all-state honors.
Prior to coaching high school athletes, Simmons spent the previous five years as a student athlete at the University of Miami (Fl.) During his time there he won four Atlantic Coast Conference titles in the shot put as well as being named Field Event MVP in consecutive years. Simmons was named first team all-conference a total of 7 times and made ACC finals a total of 11 times including the shot put, discus, hammer, and weight throws.
In high school, Simmons was named 2011 Virginia Gatorade Athlete of the Year while becoming a two time National Runner-up in the shot put and discus throws. Simmons still holds the state indoor and outdoor shot put record as well as the discus records for 6A at 68' and 196' respectively.
