Sean Swetnam

Sean Swetnam joined Concordia University Irvine in 2020 as the track & field/cross country strength and conditioning coach.

Originally from Maryland, Swetnam has been coaching for ten years in the public and private sector after finishing his career as a Division I athlete at George Mason University and then the University of Maryland Baltimore County where he earned his bachelor's degree in economics.


Swetnam is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  He holds a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education - Kinesiology. He has also qualified for USA Weightlifting Level 1, Reflexive Performance Reset Level 1 and CrossFit Level 2.

As a student-athlete in 2007, he was honored as the Washington Post All-Extra Player of the Year, the DC Examiner Player of the Year and also the Maryland Gazette All-County Player of the Year.  He also was recognized as a member of the 2000-2010 Maryland Gazette Prince George's County All-Decade Team and in 2006 was on the Prince George's County Japan Tour Team.

Swetnam is a current resident of Seal Beach, Calif. with his wife Katie, daughter Penelope, and dog Phoebe.
