Gene Krieger joins Concordia University Irvine after spending the past two years as the head coach of the University of Hawai’i Hilo women’s volleyball program.
Krieger will serve as CUI's associate women's volleyball indoor coach on head coach Paula Weishoff's staff. Krieger will also help lead CUI's beach volleyball program.
In his two years leading the Vulcans, Krieger went 30-25 on the sidelines and racked up 23 wins against PacWest Conference opponents. This includes a 21-7 campaign during the 2018 season which featured a UHH squad that went 17-5 in the PacWest Conference and finished tied for third place in the league standings. It was the first time UHH women’s volleyball had reached 20 wins since 2009.
As a head coach, Krieger owns an overall record of 397-235.
Krieger's teams won conference and regional/district titles during his time at Cal Poly Pomona, California Baptist, Westmont and Western Oregon. His Warner Pacific team won an NCCAA national championship, and he earned National Coach of the Year honors while at Cal Poly Pomona, California Baptist and Warner Pacific. He has also been both Regional and District Coach of the Year at all five of those schools.
Krieger earned his bachelor's degree from Portland State in 1980, where he played both basketball and volleyball for the Vikings. He also played and coached for Athletes in Action and Sports and Cultural Exchange International summer teams.
