The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles exploded offensively in a 5-2 win over Chaminade on a hot Saturday afternoon at Eagles Field.
By the Numbers: John Letona and Erik Torres each scored twice and got their first career goals for the Eagles. Anthony Rodriguez headed home a ball to give the Eagles five on the day. Jordan Brinkley made two saves and Christian Tait had three.
The Difference: A second-half red card caused Concordia to play defensively in the second half and protect their lead. The shots evened up by the end due to that after CUI controlled the first half.
Critical Plays: Lukas Pousset scored 10 minutes in for CUH as he converted off of a turnover. On a free kick Chris Rodriguez's shot hit off the cross bar, but just seconds later John Letona found his first career goal from distance to tie the game at 19:54. At 28:41 it was Letona again as he collected a turnover and fired a rocket home. After just missing a header high, Anthony Rodriguez found another chance and headed home the corner from Jesus Garcia at 33:05. Just seconds later Erik Torres scored on an assist from Chris Rawji and Isaac Gettis. An early second yellow card caused Concordia to play the second half a man down. The Swords Tyler Braunthal scored at 54:40 to make it 4-2. With three minutes left Erik Torres scored on an open goal once Ryan Naime beat the keeper to make it 5-2 Eagles.Â
What it Means: Concordia improved to 3-7 and 3-3 in conference, breaking a three-match skid. Chaminade remained winless at 0-8.
