The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles won their second-consecutive game over the streaking Point Loma Sea Lions, 3-2 at Eagles Field on Saturday.
By the Numbers: Erik Torres, Jacob Rodewald, and Isaac Gettis all scored for the Eagles. Rodewald also assisted and Ryan Naime had two assists. Christian Tait earned the win and had one save for CUI.
The Difference: The difference was the lone goal of the second half, Gettis' goal at 61:08. The game was very even in shots, 10-9 PLNU, and very physical in the middle of the field.
Critical Plays: Erik Torres broke the draw at 18:35 when Jacob Rodewald gave him the chance to beat his defender. Less than a minute later Daniel ten Bosch sent a looping shot over Brinkley's head to tie. A minute later Rodewald finished a centering pass from Ryan Naime on the breakaway. 27 seconds later Eduardo Gallardo sent a ball through the five hole to tie at two. Almost midway through the second half Isaac Gettis made a great individual play crossing his defender and using his left foot to put the Eagles up one. Christian Tait saved a good header from PLNU and Jeremy Gordon and Chris Rawji broke up loose balls in the box to preserve the lead. The Eagles locked down on defense and held onto the win.Â
What it Means: CUI was won two-straight and scored eight goals in their last two games. They are now 4-7 and 4-3 in the PacWest. PLNU fell to 5-2 in the conference.
