The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles and Dixie State Red Storm played to a draw on Saturday afternoon, October 24, 1-1, at Eagles Field in double overtime.
By the Numbers: Eric Torres scored his fourth of the year for Eagles on a throw-in assist from Anthony Rodriguez. Jason Arollo scored for DSU. Torres had two shots on goal followed by one from Jacob Rodewald, Jesus Garcia, and Chris Rawji. Jordan Brinkley made four saves in goal for CUI.
The Difference: DSU led in shots 13-10, but shots on goal were dead even at five. Â The Red Storm had 10 corner kicks, compared to two for CUI.
Critical Plays: Jesus Garcia fired a shot on goal early in the game, but DSU controlled the pace for the next couple minutes. CUI broke through on a throw-in at the 20-minute mark, as Anthony Rodriguez's toss slipped through the keepers hands and Eric Torres headed it in. It marked the first time DSU has trailed in a conference match this year. Neither team mounted much of an offensive chance throughout the rest of the half. The Red Storm got a couple good looks that sailed high through the first 10 minutes of the second half. DSU tied the match at 60:14 when Jason Arollo headed home Gabby Medina's header. Midway through the first overtime Torres got a good header on goal, but it was right to the keeper. With a minute left DSU just missed wide. The Red Storm had a chance early in the second OT, but Brinkley recovered to make the save. The game ended in a draw from there.
What it Means: Concordia earned their first draw of the year at 4-7-1 and 4-3-1 in conference, while Dixie stayed unbeaten in conference at 6-0-4.
