BYU Hawaii Pulls Away From Eagles 5-3

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles fell to BYU Hawaii 5-3 in Irvine on Tuesday in a high scoring affair.

By the Numbers: Jacob Rodewald, Jeremy Gordon, and Isaac Gettis all scored for CUI, with Ryan Naime, Chris Rodriguez, Eric Torres, and Chris Rawji getting the assists.  Jordan Brinkley and Christian Tait each had two saves.

The Difference: CUI was outshot 15-7 but just 9-7 in shots on frame.  BYUH was able to take advantage of the good looks they did get, mostly on set pieces.

Critical Plays: Just two minutes into the game, the Seasiders jumped ahead with a goal.  At 11:09 CUI responded as Chris Rawji's looping pass found Eric Torres in the corner who moved to the center, found Isaac Gettis, and he pounded it through the right corner.  At 26:42 Jacob Rodewald took a pass from Ryan Naime and put some spin on a shot that curved into the upper left corner.  After putting a shot off the post, at 35:41 a Seasider free kick to header tied the game.  Three minutes into the second half a BYUH corner kick resulted in another goal.  On the next possession a free kick from Chris Rodriguez found the head of Jeremy Gordon for his first of the year, and the game was tied.  At 64:12 the Seasiders got open in the middle and scored a looping goal in the upper right corner.  With two minutes left the Seasiders took advantage of CUI pressing up and counter attacked for a goal to lead 5-3.

What it Means: Concordia dropped to 4-8-1 and 4-4-1 in the conference.

Up Next: The Eagles will celebrate Senior Day at 3 pm on Thursday against Hawaii Hilo.  Check the live links in the inset.
