The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles swept Academy of Art 3-0 on Thursday night, October 15 in CU Arena.
By the Numbers: Rachel Flynn and Hannah Andrews led the team with 11 kills each, hitting .310 and .286 respectively. Amber Rose and Ellie Ladensack added seven each in support. Flynn added three aces and Rose led with four block assists.
The Difference: CUI hit .275 and held AAU at .140, and outblocked the Urban Knights 9-5. Concordia had above a 70% sideout percentage in the first two sets.Â
Critical Plays: Kills by Logan Grove and Rachel Flynn, and an ace from Flynn gave CUI some space in set one, 16-12. Amber Rose killed one to give CUI set point and Flynn finished it 25-18. Set two was close the whole way and an AAU kill gave them the 19-18. An Urban Knight error gave CUI the 22-21 lead. A great dig from Logan Grove led to a block from Kyra Auten and Hannah Andrews. CUI took the 25-23 win. AAU took control 9-5 early in set three. Logan Grove served a late ace to tie the set at 23. Hannah Andrews sent one cross court to lead 25-24, and Flynn crept an ace across for the win.Â
What it Means: The Eagles have now won four straight and finish their home stand tomorrow night against Holy Names at 7 pm. CUI is sitting at 10-9 and 6-4 in the PacWest.
