Seasiders Hold Eagles To Draw In Irvine

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles and BYU Hawaii Seasiders played to a draw, 1-1, in double overtime at Eagles Field on Tuesday afternoon.

By the Numbers: Miranda Canales scored her first goal of the year early at 22:28 on an assist from Taylor Thurmond, but it was the only score for the Eagles.  Kate Orchard scored the equalizer at 46:23.

The Difference: Concordia dominated the shots 18-9 and 7-4 in shots on goal, but BYU Hawaii made sure most of those chances were not quality.

Critical Plays: 10 minutes into the first half Natalie Werner got a good look at goal, but missed wide.  With 22 minutes left in the half, Miranda Canales found Taylor Thurmond streaking down the left side.  Thurmond took it to the corner and sent it back to Canales, who pounded it past the keeper.  Two minutes later, McKenna Carrillo fired wide on an open look.  Just two minutes into the second half a free kick by the Seasiders bounced and found its way into the goal off a BYUH foot to tie the game.  Through most of the second half, CUI controlled the ball, but the Seasiders were packed in defensively.  BYUH had a free kick sail high and the teams headed to OT.  Three minutes into the second overtime Megan Matchett missed off the crossbar in CUI's best chance of the day and Amanda Koman's open shot sailed high as CUI did not score.

What it Means: Concordia only gains one point from the match and now must win out to control their destiny in the PacWest.  The Eagles went to 8-2-3 and 7-1-1 in the conference.

Up Next: CUI will celebrate Senior Day on Thursday at 1 pm against Hawaii-Hilo.  Check the live links in the inset.
