The Rundown: Concordia battled close, but fell to California Baptist in three sets on Saturday night, October 3.
By the Numbers: Rachel Flynn led with nine kills and hit .174. Nobody hit over .200 for CUI. Taylor Dennison recorded 12 digs.Â
The Difference: Concordia had chances to take set one and set two, but could not finish either. CUI hit .122 while CBU hit .250. CBU had 41 assists compared to 27 for CUI. Concordia also had six more service errors.
Critical Plays: CBU built a controlling lead methodically through set one, 14-8. The Eagles made it 15-12 and then 19-17, forcing a CBU timeout. They closed even further to 20-21 on a CBU error. Another CBU error and kill from Flynn gave CUI the 22-21 edge. The Eagles mistimed an attack and CBU led 25-24. CBU took the set 27-25. The Eagles grabbed a 3-2 lead in set two. It was 9-7 after an ace from Madeline Deters. A block from Flynn made it 14-10, then she served an ace to add one more. It grew to 17-10 after another Flynn ace. CBU came storming back to lead 23-22. They took the set 25-23. CBU controlled set three most the way and won 25-16.
What it Means: Concordia fell to 6-9 and 2-4 in the PacWest. CBU improved 11-2 and 4-1 in the conference.
