The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles stayed on top the PacWest with a 1-0 win over Hawaii Pacific at home on Thursday afternoon, October 8.
By the Numbers: The score was knotted at zeros at half, and CUI was outshot 4-3 in shots on goal. McKenna Carrillo broke the tie at 71:38 when she drilled the top right corner for her second of the year. Katie Gast assisted. Darby Clements pitched her first career shutout with five saves in goal as she improved to 4-1.
The Difference: The shots on goal were tied at five to five and each team had a small handful of chances. Carrillo's brilliant individual shot broke the tie for CUI.
Critical Plays: Clements made a huge save at 18:34 as HPU got a clean look. Natalie Werner, Miranda Canales, and Amanda Koman all got good looks for CUI early in the first half. With 10 minutes left in the half Clements made another one on one save. Clements made four saves in the first half. HPU had an early second half chance at 69:25 when Clements stopped a header. McKenna Carrillo broke the tie at 71:38 when she drilled the top right corner.Â
What it Means: Concordia improved to 5-2-2 and 4-1 in the PacWest. HPU fell to 4-6 and 1-4 in the conference.
