The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles completed a 2-0 stand at the Dixie State Classic with a 72-62 win over Concordia (OR) in St. George, UT.
By the Numbers: The Eagles scoring was incredibly balanced, with six Eagles in double figures, led by Matt Scott with 16. Both Scott (16, 13) and Stephen Grosey (12, 12) had double-doubles. Justin Davis dished five assists for CUI.
The Difference: Even though the Eagles shot 10% lower than the Cavaliers (42-32), CUI dominated the boards, 54-40, and got to the foul line once again, making twice as many free throws (24-12). The Eagles led in second-chance points 20-6.
Critical Plays: Halfway through the first half CUI led 11-9, but ran out on a 10-0 run that was capped by a jumper from JT Roach. After a layup from Scott the Eagles took a 45-26 lead into the half. Four minutes into the second half, Portland had the lead down to seven, but a layup from Grosey built it back to 12. CU (Oregon) whittled it back down to five with 3:45 left, but free throws and a dunk from Scott sealed the lead for CUI.
What it Means: The Eagles are now 2-0 in 2015 and started the season on a great note.
Up Next: CUI looks to break a four-game skid in the series as they host CSU San Marcos at 7:30 pm on Wednesday night, November 18. Check the live links in the inset.
