Eagles Defeat Urban Knights 4-3

The Rundown: 
PACIFICA, CALIF. - The Concordia Eagles beat the Academy of Art 4-3 on the road on Thursday, November 5th in a 10:30 AM matchup.

By the Numbers:  The Eagles were quick to take the lead when Taylor Thurmond made a shot from 30 yards out that sailed over goalkeeper, Maggie Alikpala, in the ninth minute.  It was Thurmond's third goal on the season.  The Urban Knights responded in the 34th minute to tie the game 1-1 when Laura Mick scored after a cross which led to her drive in the box.  In the second half, Miranda Canales was assisted by Taylor Thurmond to score her second goal of the season and to put the Eagles up 2-1.  Four minutes later in the 60th minute, Amanda Koman found the back of the net after Natalie Werner had a free kick and allowed for Koman to head it in, extending the lead 3-1.  Six minutes later, McKenna Carrillo scored after a pass from Taylor Thurmond to make the score 4-1.  The Urban Knights fought to close the gap 4-3 with two goals from Rea Laudat but were unable to overcome the Eagles.

"We played well in patches today and fought hard to get the result we deserved," CUI head coach Chris Gould said.

The Difference:  The Eagles had a total of 18 shots and seven corner kicks in the match compared to the Urban Knights nine shots and zero corner kicks.  The Eagles moved the ball well recording three assists, two of which were from Taylor Thurmond.

Critical Plays:  The Eagles started the second half strong, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes.  The Eagles were able to put continued pressure on the Urban Knights defense, which allowed the Eagles to fire off 11 shots in the second half.

What it Means:  The Eagles advance to 10-3-3 overall and 9-2-1 in the PacWest. 

Up Next:  The Eagles play their last game of the 2015 season on Saturday, November 7th against Notre Dame De Namur on the road in Belmont at 11 am.
