The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles fell to Calgary at home on Tuesday, 89-80, in their first post Christmas game.
By the Numbers: Brittany Stafford led CUI with 13 points and Elizabeth Rudd scored 12 points with four three-pointers. Tyler Crockom added 10 and Jasmine Davis grabbed six rebounds. Nijala Johnson had five assists.
The Difference: Calgary outscored CUI in the paint 42-16 and shot 60% from the field. CUI did force 24 turnovers for 28 points.
Critical Plays: The Eagles started the game strong, scoring the first seven points. The Dinos fought back from there to tie the game at 10 with two minutes left in the quarter. Elizabeth Rudd broke the tie with a three. Calgary grabbed their first lead as the second quarter opened, 17-16. Haley Brown kept CUI close with a three, 26-25 and Ryan Robinson regained the lead. To start the third quarter Calgary built their biggest lead of the game, 45-35. Rudd cut it to seven with another three. Brittany Stafford hit two jumpers and CUI made a push, ending the quarter down 69-58. The Eagles got within 10 in the fourth on a three from Stafford, but it increased back to 13. Zoe Goss got it back within 10 with one minute left, but CUI eventually fell 89-80.
What it Means: Concordia fell to 1-7 and Calgary improved to 15-7.
