The Rundown: Concordia defeated #24 Point Loma 3-1 in front of a packed house inside CU Arena on Thursday night, September 24.
By the Numbers: Rachel Flynn led CUI with 16 kills, hitting .213, and Hannah Andrews added 14. Kyra Auten had four block assists and Andrews added three. Taylor Dennison had 25 digs.
The Difference: Concordia dominated in sideout percentage in every set they won. They hit .181 compared to .137 for PLNU.Â
Critical Plays: After trailing much of the first set, a kill from Kyra Auten tied the set at 15, forcing a PLNU timeout. A follow up from Madeline Deters made it 16-15 out of the timeout. Hannah Andrews smashed two making it 18-15. A PLNU error ended the set, 25-21 CUI. The Eagles grabbed control of set two, 7-3 early. PLNU quickly regained control 15-9. They took the set 25-14. The Eagles came out strong in set three, leading 3-0. The set was back and forth throughout, and PLNU led 20-19 forcing a CUI timeout. Andrews smashed one to put CUI up 24-23, and Auten found the touch in the middle for the 25-23 win. Concordia never led their lead go in set four and took it 25-18, grabbing compete control late.
What it Means: Concordia picks up their biggest win of the season, improving to 5-7, 1-2 on the season. Point Loma fell to 6-4 and 1-1 in conference.
