Eagles Roll Past Holy Names 3-1

The Rundown:  OKALAND, CA – The Concordia Eagles defeated Holy Names on the road, 3-1, on Saturday, September 26th at T-Bird Stadium in a PacWest match-up.

By the Numbers:  The scoring started when Alexis Garcia-Irons took a shot from inside the box to score her second goal of the season in the fifth minute.  The Eagles held the 1-0 lead for the rest of the first half.  In the 53rd minute, Brianna Meyer beat the Hawks keeper left, scoring her first goal of the season putting the Eagles up 2-0.  Two minutes later, in the 55th minute, Meyer found the back of the net again, her second of the season.  The Eagles led 3-0 until Hawks Lauren Parish scored off of a free kick to cut the gap to 3-1 in the 57th minute.  The Eagles held their lead through the rest of regulation and won 3-1.

The Difference:  The Eagles significantly outshot the Hawks, 29-9, with 10 of them being on goal.  Scoring opportunities were frequent and the Eagles executed.  Goal keeper, Darby Clements, had three saves on the day.

Critical Plays:  Down the stretch in the second half, the Hawks had opportunities to close the gap on the Eagles, but Clements made two crucial saves to defend the lead in the 71st and 77th minute.

What it Means:  Following the win, the Eagles advance to 3-1-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the PacWest.

"We fought hard and created a lot of chances today," CUI head coach Chris Gould said.  "The girls have a great mentality and we hope to keep it going next week."
